Scarves, boots, jackets, and back to school? That’s how many of you will know fall has arrived!

We love to cook and use pumpkin themes and flavors to get in the festive mood. What makes it even better is when our children want to be involved in the cooking and baking action.

cooking ingredients

I know, I know, you may be thinking, “Let my kids help? Are you nuts? They will make such a mess, it will be a disaster.” And you are right, it truly may be messy. But turn those messes into memories and remember that a mess can always be cleaned up. A tip that has helped my sous chefs be more involved in the kitchen is having pre-measured dry ingredients ready for my youngest, so he can mix on his own and use his independence that he loves. Have conversations with your children while cooking; note the smells, sounds, and how items feel in your hands. Discuss safety with various kitchen items and cleanliness, such as washing hands. Be mindful of taking over for your child and let them learn on their own. It’s a wonderful opportunity, and who knows, you may be shaping the next Julia Childs or Bobby Flay.

crack eggs

We love breakfast in our home. We are big believers that starting the day off with a full belly leads to the foundation needed to learn and grow (and not be cranky)!
